Introducing the New PALA Digital Denture

Alpha Dental Laboratory is proud to be a partner lab with Heraeus Kulzer offering the new PALA Digital Denture. The latest in digital dentistry, the PALA Digital Denture offers accurate fits and reduced chair times. Read below for more information on this new process.

Required: Pala Digital Denture Trays
You must take impressions using a Pala Digital Denture trays if you wish to order dentures. Pala Digital Dentures' patented 3D-ready trays vary in sizes from small, medium, large to extra large. Each tray set is composed of one (1) maxillary tray, one (1) mandibular tray and one (1) center pin. Using the Pala Digital Denture trays, you can capture the VD and CR on the same tray as the impression, saving you enormous time and future patient visits. Starter Kits contain 2 tray sets of each size (S, M, L, XL) plus a lip ruler, and a jaw gauge.

For single arch cases, you must also order a separate single arch attachment for the bite registration. (see Single Arch Instructions for additional details.) For impression taking, we recommend Flexitime Fast and Scan.

Step 1.1: Take Impression (Patient's 1st Visit)

After receiving your trays, select the correct tray size and take your patient's impression. Please follow the instructions on the tray user manual when taking impressions for the best result.
1. Select the correct tray size (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large) that best fits size of the patient's mouth.

  1. Anterior Part of Maxillary Tray
  2. Posterior Part of Maxillary Tray
  3. Anterior Part of Mandibular Tray
  4. Posterior Parts of Mandibular Tray
  5. Center Pin and Plate
After making sure the posterior part (part #2) is attached, load the fast-setting heavy or medium body PVS material to completely fill the maxillary tray. Insert the tray in patient's mouth and make sure the entire tray is completely seated by firmly pressing the finger spots at the back of the tray.

Once the tray is seated, perform border modling as follows:

  1. Have the patient open his/her mouth wide. then closed
  2. Have the patient move his/her jaw side by side
  3. Pull patient's right cheek out and down
  4. Pull patient's left cheek out and down
  5. Pull patient's upper lip down

Repeat these border molding movements 3 to 4 times until the material is hardened, Setting time varies from different manufacturers, so please check your PVS impression material instructions. Once the material is set, remove the tray and check the impression. If a modification is needed, make sure to adjust the tray before taking the wash impression. For example, if the edge of the tray shows through the impression material, adjust it by grinding the edge down a couple millimeters with a slow speed hand piece. Then, wash the impression with fast-setting light body PVS material following the same procedure as before. When using the light body PVS material, load it just enough to lightly cover the entire surface of the tray.

In case the center pin is inserted, please remove the center pin. Same as the maxillary tray, make sure the posterior pieces (parts #4) are attached and load the fast-setting heavy or medium body PVS material to completely cover the entire mandibular tray. Insert the mandibular tray in patient's mouth and make sure the entire tray is completely seated by firmly pressing down the linger spots at the back of the tray with your fingers.

Once the tray is seated, perform border molding as follows:

  1. Have the patient stick his/her tongue out
  2. Squeeze in patient's both cheeks to get the distro-buccal corners while the patient's mouth is completely relaxed
  3. Pull patient's right cheek
  4. Pull patient's left cheek
  5. Pull patient's lower lip up

Repeat these border molding movements for 3 to 4 times until the material is hardened, for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Once the material is set, remove the tray and check the surface of the impression. If borders of tray are showing through the impression material, adjust it by grinding the edge down a couple millimeters with a slow speed hand piece. Then, wash the impression with fast-setting light body PVS material following the same procedure as before.

Cut the PVS material on the maxillary and mandibular trays with a surgical blade in a single line to separate the posterior parts (parts #2 & #4) from the anterior parts (parts #1 & #3). Cut both trays following the borderline between the anterior and distal parts and detatch the posterior parts (parts #2 & #4).

When separating the posterior parts, be careful not to break the tray by bending it; instead, wiggle the tray loose and pull out the posterior parts. Trim the excess impression material covering the outer surfaces of trays so that the bite registration material can seat on.

After inserting the center pin (part #5) in the mandibular tray, set the center pin to the highest point before measuring the vertical dimension. Make sure posterior parts are detached and insert both anterior parts of mandibular and maxillary trays (parts #1 & #3) in patient's mouth.

Then, lower the center pin (part #5) until patient's lips naturally touch each other without the lips having any tension. If necessary, you may cut the center pin in half to shorten the pin. If the patient has an existing denture, determine the vertical dimension by adjusting the center pin (part #5) to match the pre-determined vertical dimension.

For the patient's comfort, trim the excess pin thread out of the pin hole before taking the centric relation record. After you get the vertical dimension, determine the centric relation location by having the patient move his/her jaw front and back several times to figure out the most posterior position.

After you determine the centric relation position, fill up the gap with bite registration material on both sides as well as on the front.

After the bite registration material is set, remove the entire piece from a patient's mouth.
Using the Pala Digital Dentures lip ruler, measure the upper lip length. Measurement should be from the incisive papilla to upper lip line, which will be needed for the online order process (Refer to the pic. 1-1 & 1-2 below). After placing your order online, pack everything, including anterior parts of both maxillary and mandibular impressions with the bite registration material in between and detached posterior parts of both maxillary and mandibular impressions both and ship them to your Pala Digital Denture lab.

Step 1.2: Place Denture Order Online

After taking impressions, order your choice of dentures by logging in to your account and selecting dentures under the 'Products' page. Please check all the required options when placing your order.
Pala Digital Dentures' CAD/CAM-designed dentures deliver a superb fit, the most anatomically accurate teeth setup, ideal weight and comfort, and a wide range of teeth and gingival shades. There are 2 different types of denture products: Economy/Standard and Premium Pala Digital Dentures. The Premium option offers enhanced and customized stippling, color, and detailing options for the gums and teeth.

Step 1.3: Send to your Pala Digital Laboratory

After placing your order, print out the order form and pack everything including the detached posteriors of the maxillary and mandibular impressions, the main impressions and the bite registration, and ship them to your Pala Digital Denture lab with your order sheet. You can print your order sheet by seleting the order's 'Print Order' option in your 'My Account' page.

Step 2: Receive Try-in or Final Dentures

Try-ins (prototypes) are shipped out 3 business days after receiving your impression, and finished dentures are shipped out 5 business days after the date your impression is received.

Choose Try-in on your 'Order Form' if you want to receive a try-in before the final denture. Please note try-ins are a printed prototype and are not a true reflection of the final denture.

If you received a try-in, use the Instruction Form for adjustments. Send the try-in back to Pala Digital Dentures with the Instruction Form filled out for adjustments, or instructions to 'Finalize'. Final dentures are generally ready to ship 5 business days after we receive a try-in back with a note to 'Finalize'.

Why Pala Digital Dentures

Digital Dentures Technology Creates Better-Fitting Dentures Faster

Denture production is complex and time consuming, and—due to changes in the patient's gums or imprecision in craftsmanship—the result may not fit properly. Many patients require additional visits before their dentures are adjusted to a comfortable fit.

With advanced Pala Digital Dentures technology, however, dentures are modeled using 3D software for a perfect fit in significantly less time.

Fewer Visits for Greater Productivity

Computer-aided design and manufacturing (also known as CAD/CAM) has been making a great contribution to dental restorations. Today, CAD/CAM dental technology allows Pala Digital Dentures to improve denture quality while greatly reducing lead time and costs.
